Chevron Spoofed in a Fantastic Hoax by the Brilliant Yes Men

According to the TED article, a number of Web designers have developed spoof websites. Personally I am not a fan of spoof websites because such webpages lack originality. In a way these websites are ‘mocking’ and have the potential to ridicule a certain brand or organization. I am not sure if it is ‘ethical’ to create such sites because intellectual property rights can be violated during this process. In the instance of Chevron spoof website the design of the original website was ‘mimicked’ in the spoofed website. Moreover spoof websites are unreliable. Viewers can be confused when they visit these webpages if they are not aware of the fact that the content in the website is fabricated. Thus reliability can be an issue with spoof webpages. For the webpage assignment I probably won’t create a spoof website because of the problems that I have stated above.
